Peterhead Baptist Church Logo
The logo
incorporates symbols which have long been associated with Christian worship
since its founding.
The Fish is a common symbol; in early Roman times it
was used by Christian martyrs to encourage one another. It is a common symbol
with many associations with the gospels. It is also symbolises the histories
connections that Peterhead has with the fishing industry. Just as many of the
early followers of Jesus were fishermen, so the church in Peterhead has a strong
connection with fishing and the sea.
Water is an important Christian
symbol within the Baptist tradition as it is used in the sacrament of baptism
where it signifies cleansing and new life. Water also reminds us of the sea, an
ever present reminder that much of the prosperity and industry of Peterhead is
dependent upon it.
The Cross is hinted at by the vertical line bisecting
the fish and the circle with the horizontal crossbar curving to support the
fish, the Christian.
The colours are taken from the colours of the
Baptist Union of Scotland emblem, gold purple and royal blue. All of these are
symbolic colours signifying royalty.
Let us all identify with the symbols
and the image of the fish, combined with the water and the cross.
