Visit from Bama March 2008

In March we were delighted to welcome Bama from Mumbai to visit us. We have been supporting her and the work of OM in India for a few years and have come to know Bama and the churches she cares for in Mankurd. It was a privelidge to meet her in person and present her with a further donation to the building of the Good Shepherd school. She was also presented with a banner for the church in Mumbai which the ladies of the  Peterhead church stitched at a fundraising evening.

Bama is pictured here with Andrew Prentice of OM.

A Letter From Sergey

We are fine too. Ivan was with us few last days, yesterday he went back to University, soon he will take winter exams, please pray for him. We glad to see that he has time to study the Bible, but we always would like to see him more mature than he is. He shares Gospel and Bible teaching with the students and got nickname "Jew"! One his friend ask Ivan something to do, but Ivan forgot it. The boy said to him: "Ivan I trusted that you would do it!" Ivan said: "I'm very sorry that I forgot it, but I told you to read Bible, if you read it you would not be so stupid as Bible says - Cursed be the man that trusteth in man!" Some of his friends take more interest than others and they have good spiritual discussions and listen what Ivan shares from the Bible.

Alexandra still having winter holiday till 13th of January. Life in her age is no problem! No exams, not much home task, no worries, easy life! She will be 10 in April, but already thinks she is big! Before we were reading with her children Bible and children christian books. Now we have with her new goal - New Testament, each day if possible chapter by chapter. We just started before yesterday and passed two chapters of Matthew. She reads, then I take Bible and ask some questions: names, details, prophecies. She likes to answer very much, to show her memory! Then we try to find spiritual lesson for us.

The situation in Russia is more or less stable. It is closed door for Gospel preaching in schools, more difficult to go in Universities, but plenty other open doors.

Thank you so much for your prayers for Vitalik. I really appreciate it very much, as he himself not saved yet, but gives us opportunity to come. On the 4th of January I visited the army base with family which accepted the Lord two years ago - father, mother and boy of 15 years. They have family music group and now sing christian songs. They shared how the Lord saved them and gave new life with new songs. Soldiers were attentive to message and political officer invited us again. And already yesterday we visited the army base again. Every time we come we can have new soldiers, as they have obligations and can't come all together every time.

Yesterday we had even more free soldiers who could come. I took with me former junkie named Ivan with his daughter of 16 years. He told about his nightmare life before salvation, he started life with beer and wine and finished with all kind of drugs and pills. He pulled his wife into the same life and family was broken, he pointed to daughter, who was little that time, but witnessed all tragedy and had to stay with grandmother as parents were always on drugs and no money even for basic food. Ivan wanted to commit suicide, but heard Gospel, trusted the Lord, his wife trusted the Lord, his daughter trusted the Lord and now they sing for the Lord! They sang with daughter nice christian songs for soldiers. After him I spoke to soldiers. I told them that I had just an opposite life in the same time, as we almost the same age. I never tried any kind of drugs, I got good education, good job, good money, good wife, but no happiness, just emptiness, meaningless and as a result when at sea was great storms I wanted our tanker to sink as I could not see my future life. We told them that after army they could choose his way with poverty and drugs or my way with money and good position in society, but the end will be the same - emptiness, death and hell. Or the third option which we preach - the Lord Jesus Christ!

"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."(Mt.7:13,14)

We had prayer for them at the end, the soldiers were very thankful for the message of salvation. We hope the Lord will save many.

Irina continues her work with poor families in villages and town. In Christmas Eve , which is on the 6th of January in Russia, she took from village father with 4 children in our church for service, their mother could not come, because of work in village shop. Beside Gospel preaching was also Nativity for children at the end and children enjoyed it very much as they were at such service for the first time. After service they asked for picture with king Herod (very friendly youth brother, in opposite to real Herod!) He was very funny and said to them: "My children! Come to me for picture!" They delighted it!

After meeting we took them in our house, children were playing and we had a good talk with their father, as not everything well in their family and no wonder, if no place for Prince of Peace - no peace. Hope they will accept the Lord.

After school holiday we hope to visit orphanage as we do it each year. Also we have plenty addresses in villages for personal visit. Still open work in prisons and in rehabilitation centre for ex-offenders, what we have. Praise the Lord for still many open doors for work and Gospel outreach.

Thank you very much for all your support and prayers. We always remember you in our prayers and nice time with you, even it is short. May be the next time the Lord will give us a bit more as we need such wonderful christian fellowship! Please, pass our christian greetings to all our friends with you.

Yours in the Lord Jesus Christ,

Sergey and family

Women's Fellowship - Thanksgiving Service

The annual thanksgiving service of the Women’s Fellowship was held in the church on the evening of 28th April 2008, and a fantastic time of fellowship and praise was had.

We were joined by many friends from Baptist churches nearby and also ladies from other churches in the town,

The musical programme was given by Kenny Cowe and friends, which was greatly appreciated by all. The national president of the Scottish Baptist Women’s Fellowship shared with us and the opportunity was also taken to present a gift to the local branch of teen challenge and local health board sections.

The next session of meetings begins again in September and all ladies are cordially invited.
